On May 9, 2025, Governor Gretchen Whitmer hosted Italian Consul Allegra Baistrocchi, Chair of the EU in Michigan, at the State Capitol in Lansing to celebrate “Europe Day.” Whitmer proclaimed May 9 as “Europe Day,” marking the 75th anniversary of the 1950 Schuman Declaration, which laid the foundation for European peace. The event, attended by Michigan lawmakers and diplomats, highlighted the state’s $5.8 billion in exports to the EU in 2024, underscoring strong economic ties and a commitment to future collaboration.
