The American University of Rome (AUR) and the Dante Alighieri Society of Michigan launched a dedicated summer scholarship program this year, awarding two scholarships for students to study in Rome during the summer of 2024. This collaboration reflects both institutions’ commitment to promoting Italian culture and providing exceptional educational opportunities.
The scholarship program awarded two scholarships: one to a rising senior with a minimum score of 4 on the AP Italian exam and another to a college student with Italian heritage. These scholarships covered the cost of one 3-credit class during the summer session at AUR and provided full housing accommodations for the duration of the course.
Violet Fraser, one of the scholarship recipients, expressed her gratitude and enthusiasm for the program.
”I had a remarkable summer at the American University of Rome. My class, The Art of Rome, taught me so much about Italian history and culture and gave me the opportunity to explore the city’s most beautiful museums and monuments; I’ve never experienced such active and applied learning. Apart from my class, AUR also allowed me to see parts of Italy outside of Rome, including Siena, Florence, and Montecatini. This program made me fall in love with the amazing city of Rome, and I plan to return soon!”
Eleanor Lemelin, the second scholarship recipient, shared her transformative experience. “It was a fantastic experience to live in Monteverde for a month and study with such engaging and passionate professors. I made Roman friends, became a regular at our corner bar, and felt at home in Rome. This experience has been life-changing, and I wish it would never end. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this incredible opportunity to live and study for a month in the Eternal City. Grazie mille, AUR e Dante Alighieri Society of Michigan!”
This partnership between AUR and the Dante Alighieri Society of Michigan underscores a shared mission to foster educational and cultural exchanges, enriching students’ lives and broadening their horizons. Both institutions are proud to support these outstanding students and look forward to continuing their collaboration in the future.
