A Presidio Letterario of the Società Dante Alighieri is a network of over 100 centers worldwide that promote Italian literature, especially contemporary literature, and Italian reading. These centers are specialized functions of Dante committees (or can be hosted by other institutions that share the project’s goals).
Presidi Letterari typically maintain or develop a library with Italian-language books, offer consultation and lending services, and organize literary activities such as reading groups, author presentations, cultural events, and discussions.
Through this network, a Presidio also participates in initiatives, such as contributing to the Society’s collective vote for the Premio Strega, Italy’s most prestigious literary award.
