Alessandro Manzoni (1785–1873): A Celebration of His Life and Legacy

Join us as we commemorate Alessandro Manzoni, one of Italy’s most influential writers. Renowned for his masterpiece I Promessi Sposi (The Betrothed), Manzoni revolutionized Italian literature and championed the Tuscan dialect, helping to unify the nation linguistically.

Alessandro Manzoni was born in Milan 240 years ago. We want to commemorate him and his work through a fun lecture on his life to discover why Manzoni, and most of all his historical novel, ‘The Betrothed, ’ is often the nightmare of countless Italian high school students. Join us to talk about this incredible artist who, like many others, contributed to shaping the face of Italian literature and the modern novel forever.

Dr. Erika Caturegli, the host for this lecture, is a literary enthusiast with a background in modern languages and literature who became even more interested in Italian literature after moving to the United States.”
