During this Anno Dantesco, la Dante Alighieri Michigan explored Dante’s poetry before the creation of the Divine Comedy by selecting poems in which he talks about his beloved Beatrice. In this retrospective in honor of the Settimana della Lingua, we will look at how the trend of love sonnets was born and analyze selected poems together

“Dante Divine Comedy: A Metaphor of Universal Knowledge“

In his presentation Prof. Raffaele De Benedictis will talk about medieval knowledge and how it was integrated into the university curricula of the times. In particular, he will show how this knowledge can be “metaphorically” found in Dante’s work.
Prof. De Benedictis will illustrates Dante’s encyclopedic knowledge, so typical of the Divine Comedy, with textual references from the Comedy and the Convivio….”
Registration is required.
“The Circolo italiano and students of Italian at Wayne State University will create a humorous vlog: “Vlogging with Dante: A Day in Dante’s Life”. The vlog will follow the Sommo Poeta during his daily routine and his meetings with Petrarca and Boccaccio, among others!”

Giulia Riccò and Leonardo Chiarantini jointly with ITSA (Italian Student Association) will be hosting a night of games based on Dante’s Divine Comedy and De Vulgari Eloquentia.

GVSU Students of Italian at GVSU will discuss some of Dante’s quotes and their relevance to our modern society. Students will discuss Dante at the Language Resource Center, replicating the typical Italian Medieval activities carried out in the “piazza”.
The Language Resource Center is located at on the second floor of Mackinac Hall
(D wing), in room D-2-221.
Note: The videos realized by the students will be played on Friday, October 22 starting from 4:00 pm.
This it will be an asynchronous participation.
