Professor Joseph Francese will discuss the Sicilian folk character Giufà, part of popular culture in Sicily since the Muslim conquest of the Island in 827. Prof. Francese will also address the conflicting ways two modern writers, Italo Calvino and Leonardo Sciascia, appropriated Giufà.
